Papervision 3D: FLV spreading around walls
January 25th, 2007 by LuisFinally I had a little bit of time to play around with Papervision 3D, a fantastic 3d engine for Flash.
At the moment I couldn’t play with the AS3 version because some conflicts I have between Flex builder and Eclipse, but so far the AS2 version of the engine is quite impressive.
I’ve been trying to spread a FLV around the walls of a cube, it took me around 15 minutes to do it, easy, clean and fantastic performance.

Why would anyone develop online 3D in Flash with Papervision3D when they could use Director MX and it’s amazing 3D Shockwave engine? Please tell me?

why pay for director and work for windows-only platform (shockwave) if u can do it for free (vi editor, flex 3 compiler) for every platform (flash is for win, mac, linux)…. tell me…

Why use Shockwave 3D? Because so far, there is no support for skeletal animation in PV3D and Collada files are huge compared to W3D, that is two reasons WHY.
Other reasons are documentation, hardware acceleration, Levels of Detail, and the fact that with Director 11 there is support for Windows Vista. Did I list enough “whys” for you?
